Help Start an Organic Vegetable Garden Business for a Rural Family
Our newest initiative, the Village to Table Organic Vertical Vegetable Garden project, helps families in rural villages support themselves by providing them with the means to grow and sell in-demand organic produce to local hotel and restaurant buyers.
Working with a village of 200 homes located approximately 30 km from the top tourist destination of Siem Reap, Cambodia, our goal is to secure funding for 20 organic vertical vegetable gardens that can each produce about 10 kg of produce a month for consumption by the families as well as for sale to local hotels and restaurants as a sustainable source of income in an area where unemployment is greater than 80%.
The source of water for these gardens comes from hand-pump water wells and rainwater cisterns that are also being installed in the village. You can sponsor a hand-pump water well for $250.
An organic vertical vegetable garden for a family also costs $250. This includes the construction of the garden, organic soil, and seeds. Teachers for Tomorrow will also provide the villagers with training on how to prepare and market their produce to local buyers.
Donors can also have their family name put on a sign that identifies them as the sponsors.
